About the role

The role involves reviewing medical records to assign accurate ICD-10-CM and CPT codes while abstracting clinical data into systems like Epic. Additionally, the coder will resolve documentation needs to support timely billing and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

*Expected Starting Pay Range $25.82 - $32.28 *Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on‑call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.

While this is a remote opportunity, you must be able to attend training onsite for the first 3-6 months.

Bring your coding experience to work that supports timely, accurate billing across emergency and urgent care services.

This role reviews medical records, assigns accurate ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes, resolves documentation needs, and contributes ideas that strengthen coding processes.

What You Will Do Review medical records and abstract clinical data into Epic and/or Fastrack.

Assign ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes accurately and ethically using approved coding resources.

Review encounters requiring documentation or clarification to support timely billing.

Meet established productivity, deadline, bill-hold, and accounts receivable goals.

Maintain current knowledge of CMS, State of Ohio, and official coding guidance.

Identify coding process improvement opportunities and communicate ideas to management.

What Will Help You Be Successful Experience with ED or urgent care coding.

Exposure to ED-to-inpatient coding, procedures, and infusions.

Ability to apply existing processes when information is incomplete or a situation is less routine.

Clear organization and follow-through when managing documentation and billing timelines.

Job Qualifications (Required) High school diploma or equivalent.

2+ years of work experience.

Certification or credential as CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CPC-A, or CCS-P.

Preferred Qualifications

ED or urgent care coding experience, including exposure to procedures, infusions, and ED-to-inpatient work. This is helpful, not an absolute requirement beyond the approved qualifications.
