About the role

The Mammographer performs diagnostic and screening mammography procedures while maintaining quality control standards set by the FDA and ACR. They are also responsible for equipment maintenance, patient safety, and assisting radiologists with various procedures.

Job summary

The Mammographer-Registered performs mammography procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. The technologist performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply ionizing radiation to produce diagnostic and screening mammograms. Assumes responsibility for designated areas of procedures as required. The individual is trained and a graduate from a certified Radiologic training program and capable of performing patient care for the age groups: 0-105 years old.

The Mammographer-Registered reports directly to Radiology Chief Technologist.

Qualifications

Education

High school graduate or equivalent. Satisfactory completion of formal Radiologic technology training in an AMA-approved school.

Licensure/Certification

a.) Entry level Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. b.) Must obtain mammography certification within 6 months of the start of mammography employment.

Work Experience

1-year mammography experience preferred. Currently meets FDA qualifications for performing mammography.

Responsibilities/Job duties

Responsible for performing diagnostic and screening mammography procedures; performing and maintaining QC on the mammography unit as required by the FDA, the ACR and the State of Missouri; overseeing Mammography unit maintenance and calibration and communicating information to the Chief Technologist and physicist if necessary; stocking and ordering of supplies; responsible for RIS functions as they relate to Mammography procedures; assisting Radiologists with procedures as required.

Responsible for patient, peer, and personal safety; Responsible for communicating information about patient examinations, schedule, patient's condition and equipment to the appropriate individual.

Responsible for inter and intra Departmental relations. Responsible for maintaining professional communication.

Responsible for conservation of supplies. Responsible for operation of radiographic equipment and processors and reporting problems appropriately.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of an AMA-approved Radiologic technology program and hold certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Mammography certification must be obtained within six months of employment, and one year of prior mammography experience is preferred.
