About the role

The Endocrinologist provides comprehensive outpatient evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for endocrine and metabolic disorders. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop individualized treatment plans and manage both acute and chronic conditions.

SUMMARY

The Endocrinologist provides comprehensive outpatient evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of endocrine and metabolic disorders. This physician delivers patient-centered care in an ambulatory setting, collaborating with primary care providers, advanced practice providers, nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize clinical outcomes. The Endocrinologist is responsible for managing both acute and chronic endocrine conditions, providing preventive care, and promoting evidence-based treatment strategies.

Principal duties and responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat endocrine disorders, including diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, obesity, adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders, and reproductive hormone conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical histories and physical examinations.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Develop individualized treatment and disease-management plans.
  • Prescribe medications and monitor treatment effectiveness.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, lifestyle modifications, and disease prevention.
  • Monitor chronic conditions and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Collaborate with primary care physicians, surgeons, nurses, dietitians, and other specialists.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical research, and continuing medical education activities.
  • Adhere to applicable regulatory, ethical, and organizational standards.

Education

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.

Licenses/Certifications

Physician License in Rhode Island Board certification or board eligibility in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) preferred AHA Basic Life (CPR)

Experience/Skills

Prior endocrinology clinical practice experience preferred Experience with insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) Strong patient communication skills

Requirements
