The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in the preparation and distribution of medications while maintaining accurate drug inventory and records. They function under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to ensure safe and timely medication administration within the hospital.

Participates with pharmacists, nursing, and medical staff to provide safe, accurate and timely medication administration. Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Pharmacy Technicians, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assist in the various activities of the pharmacy department.
  • Pharmacy Technicians assist the pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records.
  • Pharmacy Technicians function in accordance with standard written procedures, guidelines and state and federal regulations.
  • They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Qualifications

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required

Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy prior to start of employment. 1-2 years experience in hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Demonstrates high level of organizational skills. Demonstrates independent functioning. High school graduate or equivalency. Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Requirements

Candidates must be registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in a hospital pharmacy setting is preferred, along with strong organizational and independent working skills.
