The Physician Assistant will provide consult coverage for surgical and orthopedic patients, including performing physical exams, diagnosing conditions, and assisting in the operating room. Our inpatient units provide a comprehensive range of medical specialists who provide care in internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, critical care, kidney disease, neurology, hematology and oncology.

Surgical specialists offer surgery for breast disease, breast cancer, gallstones, hernia repairs, plastic and reconstructive surgery, urologic surgery, ENT surgery, surgery for gastrointestinal diseases and cancer, surgical oncology and spine surgery.

Orthopedic surgery for fractures, sports injuries and joint replacements are also performed.

Surgery and endoscopy are available on an inpatient basis or through the Ambulatory Surgical Service.

Job Details

General Surgery and Ortho Physician Assistant Consult coverage for all surgical/orthopedics patients placed by the Emergency Department or hospital floors.

This includes being able to perform a comprehensive history and physical, ordering/interpreting laboratory and radiological exams, diagnosing and collaborating with attending physician.

Daily rounding on all Surgical/Ortho patients to monitor their clinical status and when needed, assist with rounding/discharges for other surgical specialties including: cardiothoracic, bariatric, hand, spine, general surgery and vascular surgery.

Knowledge and skill in providing the following: casting/splinting, fracture or dislocation reductions, hematoma blocks, digital nerve blocks, arthrocentesis, suturing, incision and drainage of abscesses or bursal aspirations, local wound care.

First or second assist in the operating room Discuss plan of care with interdisciplinary teams, and communicate effectively with patients and family members.

Discharge patients which includes ensuring proper follow up and writing necessary prescriptions.

Perform dressing changes, wound vac placement, chest tube removal as needed.

General Surgery and Ortho Physician Assistant Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited & recognized NYS Physician Assistant Training Program.

1-3 years previous experience in the operating room preferred.

Current valid licensure to practice as Physician Assistant in NYS.

Able to make sound decisions based on critical analysis of the situation.

Ability to prioritize complex situations in a timely manner and educate patients/staff regarding the health care system.

Must be BLS and ACLS certified.

Must be certified by the national certifying body as recognized by the NYS Department of Education Must be registered in NYS.

Salary Range

Starting from USD $90.10/Hr.

The salary range or rate listed does not include any differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits. Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited NYS Physician Assistant training program and hold a current valid NYS license. The role requires BLS and ACLS certifications, with 1-3 years of previous operating room experience preferred.
