Overview

Under the supervision of a Radiologist and in collaboration with the healthcare team, provides clinical and procedural support to patients undergoing diagnostic and image-guided services within the Department of Radiology.

Assists with patient assessment, care coordination, education, documentation, and procedural activities to support the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care.

Ensures compliance with departmental policies, regulatory requirements, and professional practice standards.

The Radiology Assistant provides direct patient care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

The primary responsibility is to assist the Attending Radiologist in delivering care and clinical interventions to patients of all ages, adhering to established protocols across all radiology settings.

Multiple Shifts Available: Mon, Tue, Wed, Th 7:30AM-6:00PM Mon, Tue, Wed, Th 8:30AM-7:00PM Wed, Th, Fr, Sat 8:00AM-6:30PM

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive clinical support to the attending radiologist in the evaluation and management of patients across inpatient, outpatient, and clinic settings.
  • Conducts patient consultations, obtains detailed medical histories, performs physical examinations, and synthesizes clinical findings in support of clinical operations Completes initial consult documentation and pre-procedural assessments.
  • Obtains informed consent, educates patients regarding planned procedures, and ensures accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of all clinical encounters, including histories, examinations, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up care in the medical record Collaborates with supervising physicians to interpret and communicate clinical and diagnostic findings.
  • Communicates results and care instructions to patients, as appropriate, and maintains effective interdisciplinary communication with physicians, nursing staff, technologists, patients, families, and referring providers Develops and implements diagnostic, treatment, and discharge plans under the guidance of the attending radiologist.
  • Reviews and evaluates patient clinical data, laboratory results, and imaging studies to ensure procedural appropriateness and identifies contraindications to proposed treatments Performs and assists with fluoroscopic, CT guided diagnostic exams, and image-guided interventional radiology procedures in compliance with established credentialing, privileging, and supervision standards.
  • Prepares patients prior to procedures, ensuring proper positioning and adherence to sterile techniques, and provides intra-procedural support, including administering contrast agents and monitoring patients under moderate sedation Monitors patients throughout procedures using appropriate equipment, recognizing and responding promptly to adverse reactions or changes in patient condition.
  • Reports adverse events in a timely manner and escalates concerns to the supervising physician as indicated Ensures complete and accurate procedural documentation, including pre- and post-procedure notes, preliminary reports, and dictations utilizing universal dictation templates.
  • Coordinates follow-up care, referrals, and ongoing patient management based on clinical findings Adheres to all departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including quality assurance, infection control, environmental safety, and radiation safety protocols Participates in departmental meetings, educational activities, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaboration efforts aimed at enhancing patient care and operational effectiveness Supports operational and patient flow activities to promote efficient delivery of radiology services while maintaining a patient-centered approach Contributes to the development of standards of care in collaboration with supervising physician Works with other staff members to identify opportunities to improve care delivery Actively participates in quality assurance and performance improvement activities Collaborates with supervising physician to initiate actions to improve care and processes Completes Incident Reports as needed and follows-up as appropriate Performs other related clinical, technical, operational, and administrative duties as assigned by supervising physicians or department leadership

Qualifications

Education

Graduate of an accredited Radiologist Assistant educational program required. Current New York State licensure, registration, certification, or authorization as required by law. Current ARRT certification as a Radiologist Assistant required. BCLS certification required; ACLS certification required within six (6) months of hire and maintained thereafter.

Experience

Successful completion of required clinical training and practicum experiences associated with an accredited Radiologist Assistant program required. Experience in diagnostic imaging, procedural services, or hospital-based care preferred.

Pay Range

USD $122,000.00 - USD $155,000.00 /Yr. Equal Employment Opportunity Employer
