Our Registered Nurses will perform a full range of Nursing services in accordance with privileges granted by Carl R.

Darnall Army Medical Center (CRDAMC), Fort Hood, TX, to include the examination, diagnosis, treatment, and/or prescribed courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and clinical privileges granted by CRDAMC.

CRDAMC is a 24/7 teaching facility therefore will direct, perform, and/or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges and responsibilities granted.

Services will include technical proficiency in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing education lectures, and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members adhering to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.

Areas of services may include but are not limited to primary and specialty care areas of cardiology, family medicine, gastroenterology, internal medicine, neurology, and pediatrics.

Work Schedule.

Work schedules for all labor categories will range between the hours of 0530 and 2230, Sunday through Saturday, and may include days, evening, nights, weekends, training holidays, and Federal holidays.

Hereinafter training and Federal holidays will be referred to as “all holidays.” Shifts may be scheduled for up to 16-hour periods but will normally be scheduled for up to 12-hour periods.

All shifts include an uncompensated mandatory lunch break not to exceed 60 minutes.

This mandatory meal break is unpaid and not billable to the Government.

There may be instances where the contract worker may be required to provide services more than 40 hours a week or more than 80 hours every two weeks.

Regularly scheduled duty hours per location may range from Monday through Friday including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and all holidays but may change due to mission requirements.

The contract worker may perform services under this contract and other locations under the hierarchy of the MTF and will follow their work schedules as determined by the department chief or their government representative.

Overage Hours. Overage hours are variable hours that may, or may not, be used for services beyond the regularly scheduled duty hours. Overage hours will be billed for any approved hours worked in excess of 40-hours in a one (1) week period for contract workers covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Requirements

Registered Nurse (RN). May be subject to float to other clinical areas within the RN’s credentials, abilities, and qualifications. As determined by department chief, or their designated government representative, may rotate shifts, transfer work location and/or clinics during normal duty hours. On rare occasions may be assigned to irregular tours of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays, depending on area of assignment, increased patient workload, low patient census, staff surges or shortages, and government mission. Degree/ Education. Associates Degree of Nursing. Graduate from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Licensure. Shall possess current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Certifications

Basic Life Support are identified in paragraph Experience. Shall possess one (1) year of clinical or inpatient experience, post-education/graduation and post-licensure, within the last two (2) years providing direct care in multispecialty inpatient or outpatient clinical settings. Experience must demonstrate recent hands-on proficiency in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nurse care for patients across diverse medical and surgical specialties in accordance with current professional nursing standards. Background shall reflect competency in performing comprehensive assessments, administering medication and treatments, documenting care accurately, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams. RN Core Duties. Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness. Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF. Perform physical exam and health histories. Provide health promotions, counseling, and education. Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions. Direct and supervise care provided by other healthcare professionals. Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel. Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations. Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate. Perform nursing services identified in the TO. Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes. Performs independent, comprehensive telephone, clinical triaging, and facilitate care throughout multidisciplinary locations. Acts as relief nurse, triages, and screens walk-in patients to assess the severity of the patient’s condition and need for provider intervention. Communicate with other providers regarding determinations and situations relating to direct patient care. Screens patient charts to assess medical history to determine health care needs. Makes psychosocial assessment of patients to identify significant cultural practices, ability to understand and cooperate, and expectations of care and coping mechanisms. Executes and/or ensures the completion of orders from health care providers. Recognizes and reports abnormal test results, changes in symptoms, and the need for follow-up. Records required data in patient charts. Assists health care providers with examinations and procedures. Responsible for educating patients for high risk, painful, or stressful procedures with education and support. Monitors or ensure the monitoring of patients pre, during, and post- procedures per CRDAMC MTF guidelines. Assess post-procedure patients prior to their release from the clinic. Monitors patients pre, during, and post procedures. Assess post-procedures prior to release from clinic. Prepares and administers oral, subcutaneous, intra-muscular, and intravenous medications. Complete thorough and accurate documentation, within established guidelines, for all patient care and procedures. Demonstrates and instructs patients on the proper administration self- medicated prescriptions. Educate patients and ensure distributed instructions are understood for maintenance of health and self-care. Provides clinic one-on-one patient orientation and educational activities related to acute and/or chronic illnesses, self-care, wellness and/or preventive health measures, normal development, and physiology. Assesses patients’ emotional, cognitive, social, and motivational status relative to education and determines patients and/or family educational needs and priorities. Interact with patients and/or family in stressful environments. Assists patients’ compliance with medical treatment plans telephonically or through in-person clinic visits. Identify self as a contract worker, coordinate patient referrals to a variety of health care services to include, but not limited to, community health nurse, health promotion center, social work service, dietician, clinical nurse specialist, chaplain, and other ancillary services as directed by attending physician. After physician approval, performs nursing assessment of patients’ conditions, nursing diagnosis, and formulates and adjusts nursing plan of care to include nursing orders to support patients’ evolving condition. Coordinates prescription refills and after physician approval provides reassurance and/or advice regarding side effects of medications. Use tact and diplomacy in notifying patients of laboratory tests that are abnormal per provider instructions, instructing patients on further care according to physicians’ advice and established protocols.
