Technician, Pulmonary Function Lab

About the role

The technician is responsible for managing the Pulmonary Function and Blood Gas Laboratories, including performing tests and maintaining equipment. They also ensure accurate reporting of results in Epic and coordinate with the Director of Respiratory Therapy.

Overview

This position is primarily responsible for managing and coordinating the full scope of activities of both the Pulmonary Function and Blood Gas Laboratories.

Responsibilities

Performs all Blood Gas and Pulmonary Function Testing Participates in weekly meetings with the Director of Respiratory Therapy, Participates in employee continuing education activities , Performs arterial and/or venous blood gas analysis Performs pulmonary function studies and perform routine studies when necessary, When necessary, re-calibrates and records calibrations for all equipment used for analysis Performs other duties as required by the Director of Respiratory Therapy. Responsible for all equipment maintenance Reports all lab results in Epic Follows department procedures for the recording of PFTs performed Responsible for the cleaning and disinfecting of all equipment used in testing and other procedures

Qualifications

Education

H>E>W> certificate in chemistry.

Experience

  • Experience in Pulmonary Function equipment and patient testing. Experience in Blood Gas Analysis and maintenance of Blood Gas equipment and/or Clinical Laboratory experience, N.Y.C.
  • Knowledge and
  • Skills: Proficiency with Office PC's, Desktops, and Laptop software in addition to familiarity with Microsoft Office softwares to include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Bilingual preferred. Good interpersonal skills a must. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Good written and verbal communication skills.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a H.E.W. certificate in chemistry and possess experience in pulmonary function testing and blood gas analysis. Proficiency with office software and strong communication skills are also required.
