About the role

The Medical Assistant will perform direct patient care, including rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and assisting with clinical procedures. They will also support clinic operations by managing patient registration, scheduling, and maintaining accurate electronic medical records.

  • Full-time (1.0 FTE) position supporting clinics throughout the West Region
  • Primary training location: Greenbush
  • Coverage area: Multiple regional clinics, with the greatest need in Lafayette
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, typically 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
  • Occasional shifts may vary from 7:00 AM-5:00 PM or 8:00 AM-6:00 PM
  • No weekends or holidays required
  • Travel required to regional clinic locations as needed
  • Coverage may include Lafayette, Monticello, Otterbein, Tipton, and surrounding communities
  • Travel assignments are made with consideration for employee location and willingness to travel
  • What You'll Do
  • Room patients and obtain vital signs and health histories
  • Assist with patient intake and registration
  • Perform point-of-care testing
  • Support providers during patient visits
  • Review discharge instructions and follow-up care plans
  • Adapt to different clinic workflows and specialties while maintaining excellent patient care
  • Work Environment
  • Approximately 80% patient care / 20% administrative work
  • Fast-paced clinical setting with patient appointments generally scheduled every 30 minutes
  • Float Pool MAs are cross-trained to support a variety of specialties and clinic locations
  • Ideal for individuals who enjoy variety and thrive in changing environments

  • Under the supervision of the designated supervisor and assigned physician, performs duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction to provide patient care given in accordance with the organization standards. Assures completeness of ordered procedures and treatments, assures smooth patient flow, performs general lab work, instructs patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs, and ensures medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner. Performs registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures. Maintains EMR files and performs general front office functions as needed. May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician. Expected to precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership.
  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required.
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required.
  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred.
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers.
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists.
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a high school diploma and a valid Medical Assistant certification from an accredited organization. Additionally, applicants are required to possess AHA Basic Life Support certification and demonstrate proficiency in clinical competencies and medical coding.
