About the role

The Group Counselor is responsible for delivering substance use disorder and mental health curriculum through psychoeducational and recovery-focused groups. They must also complete group documentation and engage with the recovery community in a culturally competent manner.

"A former patient may not be hired at the same location where they were treated until a minimum of one year has elapsed since the completion of their treatment at that location. Former patients may be considered for employment at other RCA locations within a year after treatment. This consideration will be subject to the standard hiring process and must not compromise ethical standards, patient care, or the reputation of RCA.”

Position Overview

The Group Counselor is responsible for delivering RCA's substance use disorder and mental health curriculum to patients. This role ensures high-quality, consistent, and engaging delivery of psychoeducational and recovery-focused groups, facilitating a minimum of 20 one-hour groups per week (four per day). The Group Counselor attends staff meetings and training as assigned.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Ensure that groups are delivered professionally and effectively to meet desired learning objectives.
  • Engage with the recovery community in a culturally competent way, in and outside the group setting.
  • Complete group notes and all other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma Required. Associates or Bachelor degree preferred ; Addictions Counseling or other Human Services Certification preferred. (CADAC I; CADAC II, Peer Recovery Specialist etc.)
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience, preferably in a residential setting.Exceptlonal group facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences, foster participation, and effectively deliver psychoeducational and recovery-focused curriculum
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma with at least two years of related experience, preferably in a residential setting. An associate or bachelor degree and addictions counseling certifications are preferred.
