The Mental Health Technician assists the Registered Nurse in providing direct and indirect patient care, including therapeutic groups and milieu management. They are responsible for performing patient observations, vital signs, specimen collection, and utilizing de-escalation techniques during psychiatric emergencies.

Discover why Cooper University Health Care is the employer of choice in South Jersey Short Description Assists the Registered Nurse in providing direct, indirect and non-patient care responsibilities.

Contributes to quality patient care by serving as a significant member of the multidisciplinary treatment team in providing therapeutic groups and activities, milieu counseling and management.

Performs patient care observation rounds, 1:1 observation, environmental rounds, vital signs, control logs, glucose checks, specimen collections, treatment planning, patient education, visitor & meal monitoring, belongings and body checks and documentation as needed.

Uses verbal de-escalation techniques to manage disruptive patient behaviors, in addition to limit-setting and physical restraint application as directed, and functions as a valuable member of the treatment team during a psychiatric code and Code Grey.

Experience Required Minimum of 2 years' experience in a mental health, forensic or addictions setting.

Education Requirements Associate degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred, in Psychology or related study.

License/Certification Requirements American Heart Association BLS Special Requirements PRN, varies looking for an individual that can work flexible hours 6 shifts in a 6 week schedule hours: 7a-7:30p Salary Min ($) USD $18.00 Salary Max ($) USD $29.00

Requirements

Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience in a mental health, forensic, or addictions setting. An Associate degree is required, with a Bachelor's degree preferred, along with an American Heart Association BLS certification.
