The Chaplain provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff through counseling, guidance, and education. They participate in interdisciplinary care teams, perform daily rounds, and respond to emergent situations such as traumas and codes.

Position Summary

Provides both individuals and groups spiritual and emotional support including performance of individual and group counseling, guidance and education to patients, their guests, and Northwest Texas Healthcare System staff regarding pastoral acts/services, crisis counseling, spiritual, religious, emotional, cultural and relational issues as well as end of life issues. Provides on-call, emergent care as needed. Is part of the interdisciplinary care teams, attends department and system meetings, and provides appropriate documentation in patient charts as requested. Qualifications

Education, Training, Experience and Licenses/Registrations Required

  • Master's degree in theology, divinity or religious studies at an institution accredited by the Association of Theological Schools or an accepted regional accrediting agency; or a Bachelor's degree and considerable pastoral care, chaplaincy, or counseling experience, required Licensed in counseling such as LPC, LMFT, or LADC/CADA, preferred CPE preferred Acute care and/or behavioral healthcare setting experience, preferred Strong ability to work with other healthcare professionals in a team approach to patient and guests, required Active in a local church or community of faith, required Two (2) years in pastoral ministry or hospital ministry or equivalent Advanced level of interpersonal skills in dealing with emotions and spiritual issues associated with highly stress-prone situations found in the hospital environment, especially those related to emergent situations (e.g. Emergency Department, ICU, NICU, Behavioral Health, etc.), required Knowledge of the practice of spiritual care in a hospital environment, end-of-life issues and pastoral care to grieving persons including complicated situations of mourning involving illness, pain, suffering, crisis, trauma, death and dying across the lifespan and providing support to highly-stressed patients, families, guests and staff, required Working knowledge of cultural and religious practices and sensitivity to the cultural and spiritual needs of patients and guests, required

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in theology, divinity, or religious studies, or a Bachelor's degree with significant pastoral experience. Two years of experience in pastoral or hospital ministry is required, along with strong interpersonal skills for high-stress environments.
