About the role

The Registered Nurse performs integrated neurological, neurosurgical, and trauma critical care functions using the nursing process. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, coordinating care plans, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure positive patient outcomes.

Summary

14K for 2 years sign on bonus for qualified candidates This position performs a variety of integrated neurological/neurosurgical and trauma critical care functions, intuitively, using the nursing process while applying a broad nursing knowledge in a caring, concerned manner. Position requires travel among MyMichigan Health subsidiaries. For casual positions: casual employees have no regularly scheduled work hours, but require an understanding of, and agreement to fulfill, the minimum time commitments of the position for as long as the position is held. These are (if needed) at least 48 hours per month with 24 of those hours worked on weekends, and an annual requirement of 24 hours worked on holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient for physical, emotional, psych/social and family support. (25%)
  • Organizes and coordinates all aspects of patient care according to the patient’s real and/or perceived needs. (25%)
  • Evaluates patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patient’s plan of care or clinical path. (25%)
  • Consults and collaborates with members of the healthcare team in planning and implementing total patient care for individuals. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates proficiency (according to medical center and unit policy and procedure) in nursing skills to carry out the patient’s plan of care. Communicates interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort. Educates patients and families. Provides teaching, support and coordination of health care plans for patient and family through the acute phase of illness, as needed. Promotes clinical knowledge development including critical thinking skills and improves strategies for comparing clinical judgment through research and continuing education.

Completion of orientation process and required competencies. Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.   • Recommend and prefer to have completed TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation) class.
  • PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
  • May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
  • Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
  • May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • Physical Demand Level: Medium.
  • Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 21-50 lbs., frequently 34-66% of the workday 20 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls and constantly (67-100% or the workday) 10 lbs.

Requirements

Candidates must hold an Associate's degree in Nursing and a valid RN license, with a Bachelor's degree preferred. Required certifications include BLS and TEAM Advanced, along with the ability to perform physical tasks in a medium-demand clinical environment.
