Positions: JOB SUMMARY The Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician' performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology program.
Experience
Previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure
Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Technologist in accordance with Virginia Code §54.1-2956.12. Must hold and maintain a national surgical technologist certification (e.g., NBSTSA CST) or meet another Virginia Board-approved pathway (military training, DOL-registered apprenticeship, or applicable grandfathering criteria). Must provide proof of compliance prior to hire and maintain active registration throughout employment.
