The Restorative Technician assists the inpatient rehabilitation department with activities related to patient mobilization and application of semi-custom orthotics/bracing.

Patient mobilization activities limit immobility harm, which may occur with prolonged periods of bed rest or reduction in physical activity associated with injury and/or disease.

The Restorative Technician, under supervision/direction of the Inpatient Rehabilitation Manager may collaborate with the Inpatient Rehabilitation team (Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy/Speech Language Pathology) and/or Nursing teams to provide early and consistent mobilization opportunities for patients within the acute hospital setting.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries out direct patient care duties including transfers, ambulation assistance, and response to call bells.

Assist patient with Activities of Daily Living to complement mobility/activity and encourage independence as appropriate.

Collaborate with Inpatient Rehabilitation and Nursing, as needed, to prioritize mobilization of patients with the greatest need.

Provide fitting for semi-custom orthotic braces following the appropriate training and education provided by Inpatient Rehabilitation Department clinical staff.

Completes timely documentation of patient related information.

Maintains order/confidentiality of all inpatient records in universal chart order per policy.

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

Observes and reports changes in the patient’s health status to inpatient nursing team on the given patient care unit.

Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code.

Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Ability to sit for extended periods and stand and/or ambulate intermittently throughout the workday.

Ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, and reach, including occasional overhead reaching, consistent with inpatient patient care activities.

Ability to use hands and fingers for fine motor tasks, including operation of medical equipment, patient care devices, and electronic documentation systems.

Ability to assist with patient positioning, transfers, and mobility using approved safe patient handling and mobility equipment and team‑based techniques in accordance with organizational policy.

Ability to push and pull equipment and patient support devices, utilizing mechanical assistance when indicated.

Manual patient lifting is minimized and avoided whenever possible; patient handling is performed using mechanical aids or team assistance, except in unanticipated or emergency situations requiring immediate action.

Ability to perceive tactile cues necessary for safe patient care.

Ability to hear and see adequately to communicate, respond to alarms or call bells, and safely navigate the clinical environment.

EDUCATION: Two-year associate degree required, four-year bachelor’s degree preferred.

Training and education in orthotic bracing - certification as an orthotic fitter preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Current CPR certification.

Successful completion of required affiliations and/or CEU’s to maintain licensure.
