The MRI Technologist operates imaging equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient safety and comfort. They are responsible for managing patient records, administering contrast media, and maintaining strict adherence to safety and privacy protocols.

Job Description

An Imaging Technologist utilizes knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, computer technology, basic patient care and assessment techniques, radiation physics and biology, radiation protection, magnetic field protection and safety, and medical terminology to operate imaging equipment to produce quality images of the body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by a Radiologist, and by performing the following duties. Check out this video and learn more and discover the “Power of We.” As an MRI Tech at Intermountain Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our clinical team, ensuring our patients receive the best care by: Ability to appropriately access, manage and accurately update patient medical records through Hospital Electronic Medical Record Information Systems. Input Physician’s orders appropriately to patient’s records Maintains patient confidentiality as outlined by privacy and HIPAA guidelines. Practices according to the ARRT Standards of Ethics Educates, interviews, screens and explains imaging and safety procedures to patients regarding the biological effects of radiation and/or magnetic field protection and safety prior to beginning any imaging procedure to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation. Positions patient on imaging table and utilizes immobilization devices as warranted for safety or to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body as requested by a Physician and following protocols developed by a Radiologist. Administers contrast media orally or in intravenous administration according to Radiologist and/or Pharmacy guidelines Monitors patient during procedures either through direct contact, by the use of two-way voice communication or through control room window and/or closed circuit TV screen. Practices universal safety precautions, radiation protection techniques and magnetic field education to minimize exposure to patient, self and staff. Performs and provides evidence of ongoing quality assurance activities and collaborates and participates in quality review with others to evaluate the quality of care, performance and patient satisfaction (HCAPPS Survey and Radiologist/Physician Orders) Fiscally responsible for supply ordering according to established par and budget levels and the posting of correct procedure charges. Participates in and ensures continuing education activities as supported and value-added to the current position are continually completed to maintain competency and quality of patient care. Complete position specific competencies annually. Provides input in the evaluation of diagnostic imaging students in a timely, fair and objective manner according to established performance criteria. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift. Demonstrate a willingness to learn. Be able to communicate clearly, think clearly and concentrate on assigned tasks. Follows all applicable hospital policies and procedures. Follows policies and procedures for infection control and facility safety in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Follows “Patients’ Rights Policy” at all times. Demonstrates knowledge of information management as appropriate. Non Certified Required: Associate’s degree (AA) or diploma from a two-year college or technical school or minimum 6 months related experience and/or training. ARRT (R) Additional Certification in at least one other modality within 18 months of hire BLS within 60 days of hire Current Montana Licensure Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Certified Required: Associate's degree or diploma from two-year College or technical school; or 6 months to 1 year of related experience and/or training Current ARRT certification Current Montana State Licensure or eligibility to obtain Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart Association Additional certification, within 18 months of hire Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.- and

Candidates must hold an Associate's degree or diploma from a two-year college or technical school and possess current ARRT certification. Additionally, a current Montana state license and BLS certification are required for the role.
