About the role

The Histology Technician is responsible for performing routine histology tasks including tissue embedding, cutting paraffin sections, and staining slides. They must also maintain laboratory equipment, manage reagent inventory, and ensure accurate clinical data entry into the laboratory information system.

Gastro Health is seeking a Part-time (PRN/ Per- Diem)Histology Technician to join our team!

Comply with all safety regulations.

Routine handling of biohazards and/or chemically hazardous material.

Special projects and other duties as assigned by manager.

Ensure all correct clinical data/information is entered into the laboratory information system (i.e., order entry, patient demographics and/or results).

Able to perform routine histology from accessioning to cover slipping.

Preparation of material for staining, including cutting paraffin sections.

Properly embed processed tissue.

Cut and stain re-cut slides, special stains, and esotaic test requested by pathologist.

Maintain, troubleshoot and running of complex automated equipment.

Maintenance lab reagents and supply inventory needed for daily staining procedures.

QC and QA of adequate control material needed for tests within laboratory.

Under the direction of the laboratory manager, the histotech will perform repetitive or routine duties working from written procedures.

Routine work encompasses working with chemical/biohazardous material.

All safety policies and practices are to be followed.

Minimum Requirements: Associates or Bachelor of Science in biology or related field required HT or HTL certified by ASCP Previous experience as a histotech preferred The individual must have the ability to establish work priorities and to handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency Must be able to interact with fellow coworkers Internal and external client dealings require courtesy and tact Must be alert and energetic with constant monitoring of workflow Punctual, dependable, detail oriented We offer a comprehensive benefits package to our eligible employees: Medical Dental Vision Spending Accounts Life / AD&D Disability Accident Critical Illness Hospital Indemnity Legal Identity Theft Pet 401(k) retirement plan with Non-Elective Safe Harbor employer contribution for eligible employees Discretionary profit-sharing with employer contributions of 0% - 4% for eligible employees Additionally, Gastro Health participates in a program called Tickets at Work that provides discounts on concerts, travel, movies, and more.

Requirements

Candidates must hold an Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in biology or a related field and possess HT or HTL certification from the ASCP. Previous experience as a histotech is preferred, along with the ability to handle biohazardous materials and maintain workstation efficiency.
