Position Responsibilities As a Main OR Registered Nurse, you will: Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care for surgical patients Scrub and circulate surgical procedures Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary teams Promote patient safety and evidence-based nursing practice Maintain excellence in clinical documentation and patient advocacy Participate in continuous learning and professional development
Required Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure Minimum of 2 years of Operating Room nursing experience Experience in both scrub and circulating roles Minimum of 2 years of experience in one or more of the following specialty service lines: Gynecology Urology Orthopedics General Surgery Plastic Surgery ENT Neurosurgery Excellent communication, collaboration, and critical thinking skills Commitment to delivering exceptional patient care Preferred Strong scrub experience across multiple specialties Orientation This position is intended for experienced perioperative nurses. Because candidates are expected to have prior OR experience, Periop 101 is not included with this role. Instead, nurses will complete a competency-based orientation developed by the UVA Health Main OR Education Team. Orientation is individualized based on each nurse's previous experience, demonstrated competencies, and assigned specialty. Clinical Practice This role is ideal for a capable clinician who is committed to expanding knowledge and refining clinical expertise. The successful candidate consistently provides high-quality, evidence-based care for complex surgical patients while serving as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. Nurses in this role actively seek and incorporate feedback, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and begin developing leadership skills through mentoring and collaboration.
