Each pharmacy team member is essential in ensuring that UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper Pharmacy exists to ensure safe, effective, and affordable medication use in our communities, one person at a time.The Pharmacy Technician serves as a part of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper and collaborates with other team members, to provide optimal care. The Technician accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for management and provision of care in accordance with the current policies and procedures.The Pharmacy Technician is able to demonstrates the ability to competently work in different general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice. • Health are to: Demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership for the work area Work independently with little oversight Apply professional knowledge while working in the specialized area of the pharmacy Continually seeks out additional training opportunities and stays abreast of new and changing information for these assigned areas Demonstrate the ability to competently work in general and specialized areas of the pharmacy practice Participate in the training of new employees Fill, prepare, and deliver medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner. Consistently follows policy and procedures Ensuring adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care Triages and escalate any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician’s scope of practice to the staff pharmacist or supervisor as needed Use appropriate systems for processing of patient information Ensure quality is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements Appropriately operate pharmacy equipmentMaintains considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, Demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and communication skills with other healthcare professionals. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be required.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

4 years of relevant experience, or 2 years of employment required Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure

• Licensure:Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration is required. Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (ExCPT) required.

• Required: State Registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for both Pharmacists and Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be either certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or be actively enrolled in pharmacy school or be active in Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) or Foreign Pharmacy Equivalency Certification (FPGEC). Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outline in UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.

Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
