Tech Assistant

About the role

The Tech Assistant supports technologists by interviewing patients to explain MRI procedures and gathering medical histories. They also assist with patient positioning, IV access, and maintaining the cleanliness and supply levels of scan rooms.

SUMMARY

Assists technologists to insure efficient workflow and optimal patient care.

Top essental job duties & responsibilities

  • Interviews patients to explain MRI procedures, obtain pertinent exam history (including symptoms, related studies, medical conditions, medications, allergies and surgeries) and to verify the safety requirements have been met for metal objects and implants which may be hazardous to the patient and/or equipment.
  • Assist technologist with positioning patients on scanner table and places specified coil over area of interest, confirms patients comfort - (knee cushion, blanket, pillows, fan, etc...)
  • Gains IV access as needed for contrast injections – does NOT inject contrast.
  • Check and stock scan rooms and patient prep rooms

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

An individual must possess six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, licenses, registrations

  • Medical Assistant certification preferred, or equivalent work experience and training.
  • Phlebotomy/venipuncture experience including the ability to start IV’s and perform angio-cath injections.
  • Possess basic medical terminology knowledge in order to obtain thorough medical histories.
  • Certification in CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Must hold a current ARRT certificate if performing X-ray.
  • Must continue to obtain the recommended amount of Continuing Educations Credits each year for your certifications.
  • Continuing education in accordance of the ARRT, ACR, and State of Michigan.
