The Lab Assistant performs clinical tasks including specimen processing, low complexity testing, and data entry into the EHR. They also support various laboratory departments with inventory management, supply ordering, and clerical duties.

SUMMARY

Performs, under minimal supervision, clinical tasks such as but not limited to, low complexity testing, specimen processing including reference testing, data input, microbiology planting, supply orders, clerical duties as needed, point of care testing. Responsibilities

Works in a team environment to accomplish Laboratory goals Possess knowledge of Medical Technology and answers inquiries from physicians and other health care professionals May be required to mentor new employees and students Prepares specimens for testing this includes separating specimens for reference labs Inputs reference results into the EHR. Orders supplies for the laboratory and prepares supplies for doctor's offices Performs low complexity testing in various departments Assists Microbiology departments with planting and send outs Assists Histology department with processing and clerical support Assists Cytology department with processing and clerical support Helps maintain proper inventory in department Assists point of care coordinator with Life Scan glucose meters when needed Demonstrates proficiency in performing all computer tasks associated with job responsibilities Applies step-by-step problem solving and thinking patterns Performs other tasks as needed

Required qualifications

Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor. Strives to prevent/resolve customer concerns to the customer's satisfaction. Is responsible for ongoing development of his/her work skills through the use of available resources (i.e.: inservices, formal educational programs, other work groups and on-the-job training). Attends and participates in staff meetings and inservices and/or reviews documentation as required. Assists in the orientation of others and actively participates in mentoring. Performs analytical and decision-making functions with minimal supervision. Recognizes and seeks assistance/consultation when appropriate. Demonstrates an understanding of relative Hospital and all-departmental policies and procedures including safety issues. Possesses awareness of programs/services provided by Hospital and where they are located.

Education

High school diploma or GED, or a minimum of one year related experience in a laboratory work setting required.

Pay
