About the role

The surgical technologist functions as a scrub assistant during operative procedures under the supervision of registered nurses. They are responsible for preparing sterile supplies, assisting with patient positioning, and maintaining equipment in the Operating Room.

  • Description: Come join the Nursing Support team at Saint Francis Hospital, part of Trinity Health Of New England! We are a member of the nationwide Trinity Health family, bringing compassionate care to our communities.
  • Position
  • Purpose: Functions as a professional under the direct and continuous supervision of qualified professional registered nurses and in accordance with established procedures and aseptic principles functions as a first scrub/scrub assistant in selected cases to render quality service to patients of all ages and surgeons during operative procedures.
  • What you will do: Assists with the preparation of sterile/unsterile supplies and equipment. Assumes responsibility for the proper care of all supplies and equipment; transports patients and assists with transferring patients from stretcher to table and vice versa; assists with lifting and positioning patients. Reports unusual occurrences to the Operating Room Director or designee and contributes to the efficient and productive operations of the Operating Room. Cross-training between Main OR and Ambulatory Unit.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Surgical Technology.

  • NBSTSA
  • Certification: BLS from American Heart Association or Red Cross required. New Requirement as of 10/1/2023, uncertified Techs have 18 months to provide proof of certification. THOfNE gives 1 chance to pass licensure exam.

Minimum one year of scrub experience preferred. Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited school of Surgical Technology and hold a CST certification from NBSTSA. A BLS certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross is required, along with at least one year of scrub experience preferred.
