About the role

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist performs moderate to high complexity testing on clinical specimens across various laboratory disciplines. They are responsible for maintaining quality control, documenting results in the laboratory information system, and communicating critical values to healthcare teams.

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist conducts moderate to high complexity testing on clinical specimens in various areas of the hospital core laboratory department, including hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, immunology, and chemistry. Performs quality control on all tests. Follows-up on out of range results and relays critical values to appropriate teams. Utilizes the laboratory information system (LIS) to document examination results.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) or Medical Technology or Life Sciences.
  • New Graduates accepted
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of relevant clinical expertise in a hospital laboratory setting -- PREFERRED
  • Current New York State License as Clinical Laboratory Technologist
  • Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as Medical Technologist (MT)
  • Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as Medical Laboratory Scientist - PREFERRED
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with healthcare providers

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field and possess a current New York State License as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist. Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is required, with preference given to those with 2-4 years of hospital laboratory experience.
