Phlebotomist - PRN
The phlebotomist is responsible for professionally collecting and evaluating patient blood specimens to assist in clinical diagnosis. They also manage laboratory inventory, maintain patient records, and ensure a clean, organized work environment.
Description Summary In conjunction with the Star Valley Health mission, vision and values, this key position is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care through the operations of the Laboratory. The scope of the department is to obtain and evaluate specimens to assist in the diagnosis of patients. This position is at-will. Job Duties Greet patients and instruct them in the proper specimen collection methods Professionally draw blood specimens from patients by using appropriate methods Possess and practice knowledge of various specimen collecting techniques Skilled in determining most appropriate site to obtain specimens Label specimens for identification purposes and enter specimen data into the computer Update patient records with test results, distribute reports to clinicians as needed Handle confidential and proprietary information on a daily basis Demonstrate familiarity with sterilization practices and infection control Inventories and requisitions medical laboratory, supplies; stocks work area as needed Maintain a clean and organized work area Attend classes and training as scheduled and required Other assignments as delegated
Skills: Aptitude to follow written and oral communication Maintain a working relationship with other employees within the department and other departments Strong multi-tasking skills with the ease of changing direction upon request or as needed Skill to work with patients with respect to their situation Experience & Education: Strong work ethic and attention to detail High School Diploma or GED equivalent Phlebotomy certification or other medical training Abilities: Maintain a team and positive work environment Adaptable to work in a team environment or individual basis Ability to lift ten (10) pounds on a regular basis Constant standing, walking, pushing, pulling bending, and reaching throughout the work day Comply with HIPAA and other federal, state and local regulations as well, as maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in patient, visitor and staff matters
