Job Description

Sonographer Alliance Family Health Center, Inc. BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for providing patient services through sonographic procedures. Performs OBGYN and General ultrasounds per physicians ‘orders. Utilizes appropriate ultrasound instrumentation for procedures and demonstrates knowledge of equipment operations, applications and scanning techniques resulting in optimized image data/documentation. Participates in safety and quality control as related to sonography. OB/GYN sonography requires knowledge in second and third trimester experience, General ultrasounds (i.e. Abdomen, Renal, Small Parts.) Evaluate sonographs for technical quality. Provides patient education and instruction as directed by the provider. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate action and initiates life support measures. Maintains patient confidentiality. Maintains clinical area. JOB DUTIES: 1. Perform sonographic services and ensure proper quality controls are maintained. 2. Operate sonography equipment to record and produce images of composition, shape and motion, blood, tissue, or body masses. 3. Interact positively with multiple patient populations and their families. 4. Explain ultrasound procedures to patients so they feel comfortable with the experience. 5. Prepare patients for exams and observe during procedures to ensure their comfort and safety. 6. Notify physicians of any abnormalities or concerns immediately. 7. Scan patient and observe screen to make sure the image is satisfactory and make equipment adjustments as needed. 8. Select correct equipment settings and adjust to get the best angles and sites. 9. Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions and report repair needs as necessary. 10. Follow safety policies that are applicable to the job, recognize potential issues and institute measures to prevent complications. 11. Perform ethical and legal duties, such as obtaining written consent, preparing incident reports, or reporting signs of neglect/abuse. 12. Practice sterile procedures and prevent cross contamination. 13. Maintain cleanliness and order of workstations, rooms, and equipment. 14. Follow HIPAA rules to protect patients’ confidentiality and privacy. HEALTH CARING STANDARDS / VALUES: 1. AGE-APPROPRIATE CARE: Colleague has been instructed in providing customer service and on interacting with age groups as related to the department's general client population: including use of appropriate interventions, communication, and skills to match the age and/or abilities of the patient/family. MACHINES, TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED: 1. Sonography Machine 2. Copy /fax machine, Adding machine, Telephone system. 3. Computer Software –(Sonography equipment, EHR system, etc.)

3. BP cuffs, Data Scope, AED EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

1. Registry by Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) is preferred (AB, OB/GYN) but will accept ARRT in Sonography (S). 2. Multiple ARDMS Credentials within 1 year 3. BLS required. 4. Completion of formal training in an Ultrasound program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health 5. 5-year preferred sonography experience. 6. CPR Certified or required within 6 months of hire. 7. Must be computer literate to complete task(s) as required.

Skills required

1. Able to evaluate and correct (if needed) radiographic images. 2. Computer proficient 3. Medical Terminology 4. Excellent organizational skills. 5. Focus on detail and self-motivated with ability to work with little supervision.

Physical requirements

1. Normal space, ventilation, and noise levels 2. Ability to stand on feet for several hours. 3. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. 4. Must be able to get up and down out of chair frequently throughout the shift. 5. Must be able to lift 40lbs. 6. Must be able to verbalize well and possess manual dexterity to type and/or write legibly.
