Speech Pathologist

About the role

The Speech Pathologist assesses and treats speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders in children and adults based on physician referrals. They are responsible for developing and executing individualized treatment plans to maximize patient independence.

About Corewell Health Trenton Hospital Corewell Health Hospital Trenton is a 193-bed acute care teaching hospital that sponsors nine university-affiliated residency programs.

The hospital opened its doors to Trenton and its surrounding communities in 1961.

It became part of Corewell Health in September 2014.

In addition to providing comprehensive medical and surgical care for its patients, the hospital offers all private beds, a medical and surgical intensive care unit and obstetrical care.

Scope of Work Provides individualized patient care that assesses and treats speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication, voice, fluency and swallowing disorders in children and adults per physician referral.

Is responsible to evaluate referred patients, establish patient and family centered goals and develop and execute treatment plans to promote or maximize independence in the discharged setting.

Also participates in performance improvement and educational opportunities that promote the growth and development of the department and profession.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties. · Master’s Degree · Experience in adult/children neurological speech and language disorders, evaluation and treatment, including aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dysphagia, laryngectomy, stuttering, and voice disorders. · Experience with head and neck cancer, tracheostomies, cognition, TBI, dementia, and modified barium swallow studies.

Certification, Licensure, Registration: · Certificate of Clinical Competence, America Speech-Language-Hearing Association, (required) or · Licensure in Speech Pathology-Michigan (required) or temporary license during the CFY (required)
