About the role

The EKG Tech performs electrocardiograms and GXTs on patients of all age groups while maintaining accurate files and equipment. They are responsible for responding to emergency situations and ensuring patient safety according to departmental policies.

Overview To perform electrocardiogram as ordered by physician, accurately keep charges current and to supply to the appropriate physician for interpretation. To maintain accurate and appropriate files and assist with exams as needed.

Responsibilities

Job Function Patient Flow Performs EKGs on ALL age groups as requested by the physician. Performs GXTs on adolescent, adult and geriatric patients as requested by the physician. Performs necessary task in McKesson, as outlined in the departmental policies and procedures. Maintains clean and workable equipment and work area. Demonstrates cost-conscious behaviors by utilizing equipment and supplies efficiently. Responds to "STAT" calls and "CODE 10" situations as defined in departmental policies. Performs basic cardiac life support as needed. Knows appropriate personnel to alert in emergency situations. Flexible for helping to cover all shifts as needed. Displays a sense of responsibility and is observant of the patient in his/her care during the procedure. Performs duties and responsibilities according to DCH policies, procedures, organization, and standards of care/practice. Participates in Performance Improvement activities. Aware of safety precautions as they relate to the age of the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. Attends in-service programs, required training/education, and unit/department/service meetings. Assist with the upkeep of supplies and equipment. Assist with transportation of patients as needed. Performs all assignments in a timely manner, establishes priorities of care and related assigned duties; effectively organizes work day. DCH Standards: Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation. Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self. Performs essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees. Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees. Recognizes and takes appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees. Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet. Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures. All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent with successful completion of on-the-job training for EKG and GXT. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English. Working Conditions Work Context Physical: Ability to reach reasonable distances to handle equipment. Ability to respond in emergency situations. Have fine motor skills. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range. Physical presence onsite is essential.

Environmental

Includes exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals and hazard material. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.

Medium

Workload: This position requires contact with others including the patients, physicians, coworkers, team members and visitors. There may be times when there is interaction with another person that may be angry or aggressive and help to solve the situation may require requesting assistance of a more qualified individual. Communication may come in the form of electronic mail, face to face, telephone or letters/memos. This individual may be responsible as a team member to answer the department telephone and work in groups or teams.

Requirements

Candidates must be a high school graduate or equivalent with successful completion of on-the-job training for EKG and GXT. The role requires the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently and maintain physical presence onsite.
