The Medication Assistant is responsible for the safe and organized administration of medications to residents according to the Medication Administration Record. They must also document all medication passes, maintain the cleanliness of the medication cart, and communicate effectively with the nursing staff.
This position is responsible for the administration of medication in a safe organized manner. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, administration of medications and documentation of medication administration. The medication assistant completes required training, communicates with the case manager (nurse) and becomes knowledgeable in the state requirements for medication assistants.

Ensure confidentiality of resident medication among other residents, staff and families.
Document legibly all resident concerns made while administering the medication.
Complete resident treatments as outlined in the Treatment Administration Record.
Maintain orderliness and cleanliness of medication cart.
Restock medication cart with cups and spoons after all medication passes are completed.
Be accountable for medication errors and report immediately.
Attend monthly staff meetings and other scheduled training sessions required by your supervisor.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Candidates should have at least six months of experience in long-term care or assisted living and possess excellent communication and organizational skills. Registration as a Trained Medication Assistant (TMA) is preferred.
Physical Requirements (based on essential responsibilities)
Must be able to frequently perform tasks such as, but not limited to, those listed below:

The work environment consists of the entire facility including resident’s rooms.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to minimal.
Inside work while assisting residents.
Minimal exposure to Blood borne Pathogens, Infectious Diseases.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
The work schedule and hours may vary from week to week. The MA will be required to work weekends and holidays and may be required to work beyond the normal schedule.
