Nurse Extern
The Nurse Extern performs basic patient care, monitors patient conditions, and assists with unit admissions and nursing care plans. They also maintain a clean, well-stocked patient environment and ensure patient safety through proper equipment use.

Observes and reports abnormal occurrences or changes in patient condition.
Cleans, stocks and maintains supplies for the patient unit.
Performs approved NA duties.
Major Job Functions The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.

In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Assist in the admission of patients to the unit to include orientation to the unit, hospital routine and patient care equipment Respond to patients needs with direct assistance by reporting patient need to the appropriate person Assist with implementation of nursing plan of care by carrying out delegated patient care tasks Assist in maintaining patient safety to include the proper use of equipment and supplies Access to medication/supply room to retrieve patient care items for use as applicable per unit Maintain a well-stocked, clean patient environment Actively participate in cost containment and assist in accurate charging for patient services Participate in educational and Performance Improvement activities Demonstrate responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity May perform additional NA II clinical skills approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing after continuing education and/or competency validation Other duties as assigned
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job: Education and Formal Training: High school graduate or equivalent required Current registration with the NC Board of Nursing as Nursing Assistant I Successful completion of the first semester in an accredited school of nursing Work Experience: None Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Demonstrated competency in basic nursing practice and use of the nursing process Excellent guest relations skills Verbal and written skills required Ability to accept supervision from a multidisciplinary team Flexible in approach to work tasks and schedules Able to grasp new skills and techniques Has basic knowledge of age-specific considerations for patients served. Candidates must be high school graduates and currently registered as a Nursing Assistant I with the NC Board of Nursing. Additionally, applicants must have successfully completed the first semester of an accredited nursing school program.
