Microbiology Lab Assistant

Assist Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLSs) and Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) with laboratory activities, including specimen processing, sample plating, and other preparatory procedures Operate automated instruments, electronic systems, and precision tools, and perform basic troubleshooting as needed Participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance activities Maintain accurate documentation, answer phones professionally, and protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements Follow established laboratory safety and infection control procedures Perform additional duties as operational needs evolve, with opportunities to gain laboratory experience and develop new skills Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination necessary to handle laboratory instruments, pipettes, small objects, and specimens with precision Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds Ability to read and interpret information, accurately identify specimens, and communicate clearly in person and by phone Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to access equipment and supplies OSHA Category: This position involves occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, and/or tissues. Employees performing these duties are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis-B vaccination series.
