Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program (college, vocational school, hospital, or military) 0–2 years of experience required No experience necessary — new graduates welcome! Additional experience may qualify for Intermediate or Senior Surgical Technologist roles Experience may include a variety of surgical specialties (General, Ortho, Neuro, OB/GYN, Vascular, etc.) Certification & Education CST or TSC certification required per state law New grads may work up to 6 months prior to certification but must become certified within 6 months of program completion Some staff may be grandfathered and exempt from certification requirements Continuing Education: Certified staff must meet credentialing CE requirements Non-certified staff must complete 30 CE hours every 2 years Licensure & Clearances CPR/BLS (AHA) required within 30 days of hire Act 34 Criminal Clearance (with renewal as required) UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer
