The Pharmacy Technician serves as a vital part of the healthcare team, collaborating to ensure safe, effective, and affordable medication use by filling, preparing, and delivering medications under pharmacist supervision. Essential duties include demonstrating advanced technical skills, working independently in specialized areas, and maintaining considerable knowledge of medications and adherence to all departmental policies.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED along with four years of relevant experience, or two years of employment, and must hold a Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration. Certification through PTCB or ExCPT is required, along with basic technology skills and the ability to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally.
Ensures timely and consistent communication. Ensures timely responses to service line requests and inquiries. Greets and assists visitors to the department. Answers all incoming telephone calls and provides accurate information as needed. Strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals.
Checks and controls quality and accuracy of work Prioritizes workflow ensuring all services are performed in a timely manner. Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects.
Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals. Participates in the onboarding of other team members. Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers. Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings. Demonstrates a willingness to adjust activities to accommodate the needs of team members/internal customers. Resolves conflicts independently, as appropriate. Accepts responsibility for actions and acts positively upon feedback from others.
Develops and delivers effective education to pharmacists and other healthcare providers. Serves as a preceptor to residents and students. Participates in the onboarding of pharmacists and other team members. Provides ongoing feedback to fellow pharmacists to achieve desired outcomes. Serves as a mentor to pharmacy team. The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
