About the role

The Occupational Therapist assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitation programs to restore or improve function in patients affected by disease or injury. They implement treatment plans, collaborate with physicians, and provide education and training to patients and families.

The Occupational Therapist assesses, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitation programs to restore or improve function in activities of daily living, functional mobility, cognitive tasks, strength, coordination, and range of motion in patients affected by disease or injury.

Services are provided across the full continuum of care in a cost-effective, quality-focused, and patient-centered manner.

Compliance with all applicable regulatory standards is required.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Treatment Planning and Provision of Care: Implement occupational therapy treatment plans.

Select appropriate treatment activities to help patients progress toward goals.

Revise goals and treatment plans in collaboration with patients and their families.

Provide ongoing education and training to patients and families.

Offer discharge instructions, follow-up care, and referrals to community resources as needed.

Serve as a resource for staff, families, and physicians on rehabilitation services and equipment.

Patient Assessment: Collaborate with physicians to establish and evaluate treatment programs, plans of care, goals, and discharge plans.

Develop a plan of care in partnership with the patient and/or family members.

Create a realistic discharge plan incorporating the goals of the patient and/or family.

Documentation

  • Document evaluations and treatment plans according to departmental guidelines. Record each treatment session following departmental protocols. Complete and submit family education, discharge, and other required documentation within facility and program guidelines.

Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-services, process improvement activities, and other required meetings. Organize workload to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner. Use materials and equipment safely and cost-effectively. Follow infection prevention protocols.

Requirements

A Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy and licensure as an Occupational Therapist are required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is also necessary, along with effective communication skills and a strong customer service focus.
