Collect blood samples from patients of all ages and ensure accurate specimen labeling and documentation. Prepare samples for laboratory testing and maintain clean, well-stocked phlebotomy stations.
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and BLS certification. Depending on the level, candidates may need ASCP eligibility or specific months of phlebotomy experience.
Trainee: Learns proper techniques for drawing blood from adult and pediatric patients. Practices accurate patient identification and specimen labeling under supervision. Collects and processes routine samples. Assists in maintaining phlebotomy supplies, equipment, and work areas. Develops competencies in computer systems used for specimen tracking and processing. Uses knowledge to identify issues and identifies resources to assist with resolution. Participates in classroom, simulation, and hands-on training activities. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
For all positions: High school diploma or equivalent required.
BLS certification required within 30 days of hire. Enrollment or preparation for ASCP certification. Ability to demonstrate willingness to learn and follow directions. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff. Proficient in developing safe and proper phlebotomy techniques.
