The primary purpose of this role is to safely operate CT equipment to produce diagnostic images of patients' anatomy, which involves preparing patients, positioning them correctly, and assisting radiologists with procedures like IV starts and contrast injections. The technologist must also evaluate the technical quality of the scans, maintain accurate records, and ensure patient comfort and safety throughout the process.
Candidates must possess an Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or a related field, along with current ARRT certification in both Radiology and Computed Tomography, and current BCLS certification. A minimum of two years of experience in medical technology and two years specifically in CT experience are required for this role.
Job Purpose The purpose of the CT Technologist is to take CT scans or administer nonradioactive materials into patient’s blood stream for diagnostic purposes. This includes technologists who are specialized in other scanning modalities. Essential Job Functions Safely operate CT equipment to produce images of patients’ bones, organs, and tissue. Prepare patients for diagnostic procedures by explaining the process and positioning patients correctly to capture the images requested by a physician. Assist radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV’s, and injecting contrast, when necessary. Administers intravenous injections of contrast material as appropriate, while observing patients for adverse reactions. Evaluate CT scans for technical quality. Schedule patients for procedures. Maintain accurate patient records for all procedures performed. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA standards. Maintain patient care, comfort, and safety throughout procedure. Perform equipment quality checks and troubleshoot problems. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be able to handle imaging equipment. Must be able to multitask. Must be sensitive to patients’ conditions and needs. Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Education/Experience Must have Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology or related field. Must be certified by the ARRT in Radiology and Computed Tomography. Must have current BCLS certification. Must have at least (2) years of experience in medical technology or related field. Must have at least (2) years of CT experience. Working conditions This position works in a busy oncology/hematology clinic. This person will have direct patient contact, including some patients who are very ill. Physical requirements This position requires that the employee be able to stand for long periods of time, up to eight hours a day. This position also requires that the employee be able to lift and assist patients as needed. Direct reports This position is not a supervisory position.
