The Anesthetist responds to patient anesthetic needs across preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases, administering anesthesia services under medical direction and managing emergent airways as needed. Key duties include formulating anesthetic plans with an anesthesiologist, discussing risks with patients, performing special line placements, and maintaining age-specific technical competence.
A Master's Degree in Nurse Anesthesia is generally required, though CRNAs graduating before December 31, 2003, from an accredited program may be accepted in lieu of the degree. Applicants must possess an SC RN-Advance Practice license and CRNA-Nurse Anesthetist certification, with no previous experience explicitly required.
