Miami, FL On Call/Pool JW-Operating Room Summary PRN Operating Room Technician 2 perform specialized work in assisting in the performance of complex surgical procedures in hospital operating rooms. Employees in this classification are responsible for preparation of operating rooms for surgical procedures; maintaining operational readiness of specialized equipment; serves as maintenance of operating room instruments and equipment following surgery.
Uses a systematic process to provide/modify care and patient/family education. Assists in the inspection and indicated cleaning of the room prior to the procedure. Assists in collection of necessary equipment and supplies utilizing the surgeons procedure card. Maintains aseptic technique throughout all phases of work. Assembles instruments and supplies on table and mayo stand. Performs counts with the circulating nurse. Assists in the draping of the operative site. Assists surgeon and scrub nurse; anticipates and supplies the needs of the surgeon with instruments, sutures and sponges throughout the procedure. Assumes responsibility for the identification and maintenance of specimens after release from the surgeon until release to the circulating nurse. Identifies medications on sterile table according to policy and procedure. Utilizes safety measures for patient, self and other team members in the handling of sharps, cautery and other equipment. Assists, when necessary, in the transfer of patient to recovery room bed. Assists in the total clean-up and readiness of the room for another procedure. Performs Unit specific duties. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
Education High School diploma is required.
Candidates should have a high school diploma and 3 to 5 years of related experience. Certification as an Operating Room Technician is preferred, along with BLS certification.
