The Surgical Technologist selects, places, and passes instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery, while also scrubbing and providing necessary sterile supplies to the physician. This role involves assisting with advanced tasks during cardiovascular procedures, including the use of cardiopulmonary bypass equipment.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma/GED and current Basic Life Support certification, along with certification as a Surgical Technologist. Required experience is one to two years in a surgical technologist role, or three to four years if not certified, and proficiency in scrubbing a minimum of two surgical specialties is mandatory.
