About the role

The Lab Assistant will be responsible for receiving, sorting, and preparing clinical lab specimens for testing, which includes scanning and data entry of related information. Key duties also involve ensuring lab equipment functionality, performing minor maintenance, replenishing supplies, and maintaining a clean, safe work environment according to SOPs.

Labcorp is seeking a Lab Assistant to join our team in Birmingham, AL Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 12 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Job Responsibilities Receive and sort clinical lab specimens Prepare specimens for testing and analysis Scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance Troubleshoot any specimen related issues Replenish test bench supplies as needed Maintain a clean and safe work environment Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

3 months or more of specimen processing experience 3 months or more of medical or laboratory experience Additional Job Standards Comfortability with handling biological specimens Ability to accurately identify specimens Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask Ability to work in a fast paced production environment and meet established turn-around times Strong communication skills; both written and verbal Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time Able to pass a standardized color blindness test Flexibility to work overtime as needed At Labcorp we have a passion for helping people live happy and healthy lives. Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD/LTD, 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO), Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Casual, PRN & Part Time employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours are eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan only.
