About the role

The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for administering physical therapy treatments and modalities as directed by a physical therapist to restore function and prevent disability. This role also involves coordinating, delegating, and supervising responsibilities assigned to physical therapy technicians and participating in departmental operational aspects.

Responsible for administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as directed by a physical therapist.

Administers treatments and physical agents as per the physical therapist an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability.

Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.

The physical therapy assistant coordinates, delegates and supervises responsibilities assigned to the physical therapy technicians.

The staff physical therapy assistant participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.

Provides input in formulating budget, assists in evaluating department performance versus budget controls and takes appropriate action to remain in budget guidelines.

Ensures that patient charges and daily documentation are accurate and entered on a timely basis.

Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs.

The successful applicant in this position may be placed in one or more of the following St.

Peter's Health locations: North Rehab Clinic.

This location is a satellite clinic and functions as a standalone facility with its own parking lot.

The therapists at this location serve primarily orthopedics, but do have some specialties: pelvic health, oncology/lymphedema and neuro/vestibular.

Post-op care competency is a must as that may be up to 50% of the caseload at any given time.

Regional Medical Center Adult Rehabilitation: On the hospital campus just inside the East Entrance.

This clinic shares space with Cardio/Pulmonary Rehab and has access to private treatment rooms and shared gym space.

There is a mix of orthopedic and complex medical treatments along with more specialties such as pelvic health and neurology.

Oncology and lymphedema management are also seen here.

Co-treating amongst the disciplines of PT/OT/ST is common at this location.

Pediatric Rehab at the Regional Medical Center: This is a dedicated space to pediatrics.

Most patients are shared amongst the disciplines.

Pediatric patients are seen in the pool for PT and OT at Capital City Health Club and at Shodair Children's Hospital.

Capital City Health Club: This location is PT only and is located in the gym with its own dedicated space and private treatment rooms.

Patients have access to aquatic treatments in the pool.

The majority of our return to sport, higher level athletes and community members with gym memberships are seen here.

This caseload is 100% orthopedics.

Requirements

Candidates must be a graduate of an approved school for Physical Therapy Assistants and hold current State Physical Therapy Assistant Licensure along with current BCLS (CPR) certification. A minimum of three or more years of previous experience in all aspects of physical therapy as an assistant is required.
