The primary responsibility involves obtaining diagnostic transthoracic and fetal echocardiograms and compiling preliminary reports as requested by the pediatric cardiologist, while also participating in a rotating call schedule for nights, weekends, and holidays. Essential functions include performing these exams according to lab protocols, maintaining high knowledge of congenital heart disease, and providing training and mentorship to various cardiology staff and students.
Candidates must possess five years of full-time experience in pediatric echocardiography and one year in fetal echocardiography, along with extensive knowledge of normal and abnormal pediatric and fetal cardiac imaging. Required credentials include active registration by ARDMS in Pediatric Echocardiography, a valid Ohio Operator’s License with specific driving record limitations, and current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation.
Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is required by hospital policy. Must pass a motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and must maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.
Summary: Obtains diagnostic transthoracic and fetal echocardiograms and compiles preliminary reports on all exams requested by the pediatric cardiologist. Participates in a rotating call schedule covering nights, weekends, and occasional holidays. Responds within NCH guidelines and finds call coverage when there are coverage conflicts.
Essential Functions: Performs transthoracic and fetal echocardiograms according to the requirements set by the Nationwide Children’s Echo Lab protocols. Maintains a high level of understanding of congenital heart disease, cath lab interventions, surgical repairs, and complications which leads to the acquisition of high quality and diagnostic images. Generates complete preliminary reports in reporting system. Performs echocardiograms at various offsite clinics and local hospitals. Communicates with the team going to the offsite locations regarding transportation, start times, coverage, and emergencies. Provides comprehensive training and positive mentorship to cardiology fellows, residents, students, and new or junior-level sonographers. Participates and/or leads department quality and process initiatives. Assists Technical and Medical Directors in evaluation of new equipment and sonographers. Participates in various research projects as requested. Attends and participates in Echo conferences, staff meetings and Echo Quality Improvement meetings. Maintains the required CMEs for pediatric and fetal echocardiography registration. Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in an applied science and a graduate from an accredited medical ultrasound school preferred. Licensure Requirement: Must be actively registered in Pediatric Echocardiography by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). Valid Ohio Operator’s License with no more than one violation and/or at-fault accident in previous two years. No more than two violations or at-fault accidents in previous three years. Proof of insurance is necessary and will be validated annually.
Certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation must be maintained.
