The Resource Nurse supports other nurses and departments by coordinating internal and external resources based on patient census and acts as a staff nurse in the department of need. Essential duties include acting as a liaison between professionals, making unit decisions, and providing direct patient care like assessments and administering treatments.
Candidates must be a licensed Nurse (LPN or RN) who graduated from an accredited School of Nursing and hold a current Kansas license; RN is required for the night shift. The role demands clinical expertise across multiple areas like Med/Surg, OR, and ER, along with strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Act as a liaison between healthcare professionals and departments, communicating information and coordinating patient centered care and treatment; based on census / events within the health system. Act as a leader in the unit, making decisions and solving problems. Clinical expertise or experience (or willingness to cross train) in Med/Surg, OR, ER and other nursing roles within the system. Must be able to adapt to changing patient needs and work in different settings. Ability to manage time effectively to ensure that patient care is coordinated effectively. Ability to conduct a patient assessment to determine the patient’s needs. Administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physicians. Works with competence and accuracy using the appropriate nursing process. Able to identify and solve problems that may arise while coordinating patient care; to include staffing. Mentor new nurses or nurses that are new to the unit. Keeps accurate electronic and written medical records in regards to the patients and as a reference for the doctors. Maintains patient confidentiality. Provides educational information to patients and families. Maintains a good rapport and professionalism with patients and families and friends, physicians, co-workers, staff, and other hospital “customers”. Maintains proficiency in the operation of medical technical equipment. Provides technical assistance with the electronic medical record. Keeps the departments clean, stocked, with supplies and equipment, and ready to receive patients. Allocates hours appropriately. Follows hospital and nursing policies and procedures. Comply with the personnel policies, department policies and CHS Code of Conduct. Other duties may be assigned. Education and/or Experience: Required: Nurse (LPN or RN) who has successfully graduated from an accredited School of Nursing and has a current license to practice in the state of Kansas. Night shift; requires an RN. Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and address questions from residents, family members, medical staff, other employees, and the general public. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Requirements: Current Kansas Nurse certification Current BLS certification Current ACLS Certification Preferred: TNCC, STABLE, care of a burn patient, and PALS or PEARS certifications. Prior supervisory experience in a healthcare setting. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
