About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant will provide nursing care under physician supervision, directing patient flow, recording vital signs, and assisting providers with examinations and procedures. Responsibilities also include performing in-clinic lab tests, providing patient education, and maintaining medical supplies and documentation.

Job Description

Under the supervision of a physician and/or office nurse, provides nursing care in a clinic environment. Directs patients to exam rooms and prepares appropriate equipment and resources in the provision of clinic services and care. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens I. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

1. Arrive to the office no later than 30 minutes prior to first patient arrival.

2. Direct patient flow to and from exam rooms and lab.

3. Record vital signs, current complaint and pertinent history.

4. Recheck all information sheets for completeness and accuracy.

5. Assist the provider in the exam/ treatment of patients, including injections and other procedures by physician order or standing order.

6. May perform in-clinic lab tests or draw blood for outside laboratory tests.

7. Provide patient education as directed by provider.

8. Document all patient contact.

9. Prepare exam rooms and instruments as appropriate to anticipated utilization including cleaning and sterilizing of instruments.

10. File reports in charts; log notes in electronic record.

11. Order and maintain medical supplies and equipment.

12. Communicate with patients by phone, including screening phone calls for providers, answering patient question to his/her ability, calling patients as needed for rechecks or with lab results.

13. Maintain the clinic’s inventory of drugs and biologicals in keeping with the Clinical Operational Procedures.

14. Any other duties as assigned.

15. Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.

16. Presents strong public relations skills.

17. Maintain a courteous, mature and friendly disposition at all times.

18. Keeps abreast of changes in policies and laws regarding billing.

19. Follows safety guidelines and policies for DHCHD.

20. Any other assignments as assigned by clinic director.

Job qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent. 2.

  • Skills: Possess reading and verbal skills necessary to understand medical records and procedures and to communicate effectively with patients and other staff. 3.

  • Requirements: Duties of the position require intermittent walking, sitting, and standing. Some bending, stooping and reaching is required with the lifting of items up to a weight of 40 pounds.

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and possess the necessary reading and verbal skills for understanding medical records and communicating effectively. CPR certification is required, and experience in a medical office setting, along with CNA, LVN, or RN licensure, is preferred.
