Job qualifications
Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of an 80-hour approved Nurse Aide Course within four months of hire date and of a regional Nursing Aide Course for long term care Nurse Aides.

Duties and Responsibilities
Performs personal care according to requirements of the patient including bathing, perineal care, shaving, grooming hair, mouth care as condition of patient warrants and as directed, feeding patient and collecting specimens.
Keeps room neat and tidy at all times, patient dry and free of secretions, and answers call lights in a prompt manner.
Performs procedures designed to prevent physical deterioration of the patient including positioning patient and giving skin care as directed, getting patient out of bed or ambulating as directed, working gently and handling patients with special conditions in the specified manner, and performing catheter care as directed
Provides care appropriate for the geriatric patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
Changes bed linens per Nursing Home routine.
Assists with resident admission and sees that resident is dressed and weight and vital signs are taken
Assists with transfer and discharge of residents, either by wheelchair, stretcher or bed.
Measures and records intake and output
Monitors residents to ensure resident safety.
Avoids unnecessary exposure during care
Speaks politely to and considers preferences of patients.
Maintains patient’s privacy.
Does not discuss personal affairs in the presence of residents
Collects and distributes 24-hour resident assessment records and intake and output records.
Washes wheelchairs when indicated per schedule
Passes ice water to residents as requested with the transportation of patients according to procedures.
Answers call lights and keeps licensed staff informed of residents’ needs within five minutes.
Keeps residents’ rooms neat and tidy.
Assists in keeping the nursing station clean and tidy, i.e. trash picked up, etc.
Assures chargeable items are charged for promptly and accurately.
Assures supplies are not wasted.
Other significant requirements
Maintains confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
Follows aseptic procedures and precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potentially infectious materials.
