Job Overview

• Fairview is looking for a Cytotechnologist at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank.
• The University of Minnesota Medical Center represents an integrated academic health care system and is comprised of two hospitals and dozens of adult specialty clinics on both the East and West banks of the University of Minnesota campus in Minneapolis.
• We are the flagship facility of Fairview providing breakthrough medicine and redefining the health of our community.
• This is a: 1.0 FTE (80 Hours worked every two weeks) Day shift position with 8 hour shifts, Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm.
• No weekends No major holidays.
• The Cytotechnologist (CT) functions independently in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice.
• The CT performs a wide variety of testing, evaluating for malignant, pre-malignant and infectious diseases from various body sites.
• The CT acts as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results.
• The CT correlates data on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other condition affecting test results.
• The CT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to promote customer satisfaction.
• The CT participates in laboratory performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Follows established guidelines to process specimens and prioritize work. Assesses integrity of all specimens for testing. Recognizes and marks infectious, atypical and abnormal changes in GYN and non-GYN specimens. Recognizes age-specific reference ranges. Recognizes problems and takes appropriate measures to resolve them Acts as a resource for problem solving, action steps and troubleshooting for lab procedures and unexpected events in lab operations. Evaluates cytological processing, screening, and results of both GYN and non-GYN specimens for quality and accuracy and initiates appropriate intervention as need. Directly communicates abnormal and critical results to care giver/pathologist. Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to Laboratory Quality Assurance, Performance Improvement and Laboratory Compliance Programs. Recognizes and communicates values and trends that exceed the QC decision levels. Takes action to resolve and consults with supervisor as needed. (i.e. logs, daily worksheets, individual workload records, computer reports). Participates in the lab performance improvement program by collecting data, reviewing the results and implementing action step recommendations. Required Qualifications Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college/university in a related laboratory field including the related lab practicum or equivalent routes qualifying as high complexity testing personnel as specified in CLIA ’88.
