The Perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment to support or replace a patient's cardiopulmonary and circulatory functions while monitoring and managing physiological variables during procedures. This role also involves administrative duties such as managing supplies, equipment maintenance, and inventory control, alongside providing clinical support and mentorship.
Candidates must have 0-2 years of clinical perfusion experience, with preference for 1-2 years using advanced perfusion technologies, and must hold American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP), CPR, and BCLS certifications. A thorough knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and cardiopulmonary systems related to perfusion support is essential.
The Perfusionist is responsible for providing support, treatment, measurement, or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory systems. This role operates extracorporeal circulation equipment during medical situations where it is necessary to support or replace the patient's cardiopulmonary or circulatory function.
