The Histotechnologist receives, accesses, and prepares tissues and biological materials using accepted histological techniques, including labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping. This role also involves preparing and evaluating necessary stains and reagents, monitoring technical aspects, and performing quality control and instrument troubleshooting.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree along with 30 semester hours of biology and chemistry (including both), plus either completion of an accredited Histotechnology program or one year of relevant laboratory experience within the last five years. Preferred qualifications include Histotechnology certification (HTL) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
