About the role

The Radiation Therapist greets patients, verifies treatment parameters against prescriptions, and prepares patients for treatment by positioning equipment and taking verification images. They administer the prescribed ionizing radiation dosage while monitoring the patient and recording all treatment details in the EMR.

Francis in 1924, CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney, Neb.

At CHI Health Good Samaritan, you’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers AirCare emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service.

Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery, a level II neonatal intensive care unit, a nationally accredited cancer center, comprehensive neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic program, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.

Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Radiation Therapist , you will utilize your expertise by administering radiation treatments under the direction of a radiation oncologist.

Every day you will maintain daily records on each patient.

Performs simulations and makes custom blocks.

Participates in Quality Assurance monitoring and quality control checks on the equipment.

Cares for patients of all ages, with a variety of malignant and/or sometimes benign diseases.

To be successful in this role, you must perfectly balance advanced technical precision with deep emotional intelligence.

You'll operate complex equipment like linear accelerators and CT scanners to administer life-saving cancer treatments while building long-term, empathetic relationships with patients who see you daily for weeks.

Greets patient utilizing AIDET, verifies patient in identification, reviews chart for proper radiation treatment parameters and physician prescriptions Informs patients and families about the treatment process and answers questions Prepares patients for treatment.

Positions equipment according to plan Takes portal films or IGRT scans to ensure treatment protocols are accurately set up and followed Verifies proper dosage of ionizing radiation for patient as prescribed by physician Monitors patient throughout treatment process by checking video monitors and intercom Informs physician anytime patient experiences distress or side effects related to treatment process Records each patients’ treatment in EMR and proper notes for accurate treatment and set-up Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books, and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences and education opportunities.

Job Requirements Education Satisfactory completion of a JRCERT accredited Radiation Therapy Program Licenses & Certifications ARRT (T) boards completion within in 6 month of hire BLS from the American Heart Association required upon hire

Requirements

Candidates must have satisfactorily completed a JRCERT accredited Radiation Therapy Program and must complete ARRT (T) boards within six months of hire, along with holding current BLS certification. Required knowledge includes linear accelerators and record and verify systems, along with the ability to operate radiation therapy equipment.
