About the role

This role involves providing comprehensive direct patient care in the Emergency Room, which includes attending to emergencies, stabilizing patients, determining the seriousness of illness or trauma, and deciding on appropriate referral or in-facility care. The provider will also examine, diagnose, prescribe therapy, perform minor procedures, and educate patients on health conditions and disease prevention.

Job Purpose & Position Overview The purpose of this position is to provide direct patient care services in the Emergency Room (ER) Department.

The incumbent plans, develops, coordinates, evaluates and delivers comprehensive direct patient care in the ER department at the Twelve Clans Unity Hospital to individuals across the lifespan.

These decisions are made independently or in consultation with a physician based on the incumbent's licensure requirements.

The expectation is to deliver quality ER care to the Community.

Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities: Attends to all emergencies presented to the Emergency Room such as injuries caused by automobile accidents, assaults with weapons, other accidents which may cause serious harm.

Stabilizes the patient, examines the patient to determine the seriousness of the illness or trauma.

Determines if patient can be cared for within the facility or referred to another facility.

Is available for night, weekend, and holiday shifts as assigned and adjusts schedule to be available on short notice when assignment changes are necessary.

Typical shift hours are 12 hour shifts 11am-11pm.

Examines and diagnoses the health-related conditions of individuals requesting care, refers individuals for consultation when appropriate, prescribes and carries out appropriate therapy in conformance with approved clinical privileges.

Performs minor surgical and invasive procedures, such as suture of lacerations not involving nerves or tendons, incision and drainage of abscesses, insertion of intrauterine device for contraception, insertion and/or removal of Norplant capsules, toenail removal and skin biopsy.

Prescribes medications as delineated in the approved clinical privileges for symptoms and illnesses.

Monitors effectiveness of medications, adjusting dosages as appropriate to patient response to medications.

Educates individuals in the nature of health related conditions, recommended therapy, and in the general promotion of health and the prevention of disease.

Records patient-provider transactions in the problem oriented medical record format and completes required data collection instruments, referrals, and medical records as required and outlined per the Medical Staff Bylaws.

Serves on the Medical Staff, MEC and other committees as assigned.

Maintains medical staff privileges as granted by the facility governing body.

Complies with all Medical Staff Bylaws.

Maintains licensure requirements.

Fully participates in medical staff functions such as medical program review, quality assurance activities, and organizational functions including attending meetings and accepting committee assignments.

Assists in the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and orientation of new staff as requested.

Also, assists in the provision of technical assistance to tribal and community groups as requested.

Routine duties shall include providing medical care to individuals eligible for services provided by the Twelve Clans Hospital in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations.

Required Qualifications/Skills: Experience: One (1) year direct work experience in a hospital setting in the Emergency Room as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.

Nurse Practitioner: Completion of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner School in any of the following areas: Accredited FNP.

Active Unrestricted Advanced Nurse Practitioner license in any U.S. state or territory.

National Certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Current Valid unrestricted DEA License.

PA: Must comply with licensure requirements/supervisor requirements.

PA or NP certification Complete the credentialing process with WCHS-Twelve Clans Unity Hospital Physical Requirements: Normal to light office work which includes the ability to lift up to 10 lbs.

Regularly required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of time and use hands to operate computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment.

While performing daily duties, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

Mental Requirements: Reading, writing, calculating Above average social interaction skills Reasoning/Analysis Works with minimal to no supervision Language Requirements: Must possess the ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently.

Must be able to continually and effectively employ professional verbal and written communications skills.

Certificates, Licenses & registrations: All applicants will comply with 45 CFR 1301, Subpart D, Section 1301.31, C and D, which require all prospective employees to sign a declaration prior to employment regarding all arrests and convictions of child abuse or violent felonies and to comply with PL 101-630 and PL 101-637 regarding criminal records check.

Candidates must have one year of direct Emergency Room experience in a hospital setting as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, along with the required educational qualifications and national certifications for their respective roles. Applicants must also maintain active, unrestricted licensure and comply with all federal regulations regarding criminal background checks.
