The Respiratory Therapist administers medications, performs therapeutic modalities and diagnostic testing for the cardio-pulmonary system, and responds immediately to arrest or emergency situations requiring life support and artificial airways. Key duties also involve managing mechanical life support, weaning patients off ventilators, performing airway clearance, and conducting special diagnostic procedures like drawing arterial blood gas samples.
Candidates must be graduates of a Respiratory Therapy program with at least an Associate's Degree, unless credentialed before July 1, 2004, and must possess essential certifications including BLS, RT licensure in MI, and NBRC credentials. Required experience includes two years of clinical work in a medical center setting, along with demonstrated competency in troubleshooting equipment and strong interpersonal communication skills.
